Amanda Kernahan is a writer, host of the Grief Trails Podcast, and a proud Adirondack 46er. Amanda first discovered her love of nature when she was grieving the loss of her mother and was invited on her first hike in the High Peaks. The experience changed her so dramatically that she wrote a memoir about her experience hiking the 46 Peaks, weaving in stories of loss, addiction, complex families, and self-discovery. She continues to venture back to Mother Nature whenever she needs grounding.
She reluctantly became a runner because the mountains were too far to frequent enough and has since completed 3 trail marathons, 1 road marathon, and countless half marathons. Some of her best friendships have been made or maintained by meeting up for runs in the sweltering heat, the cold so frigid eyelashes turn into icicles, and some rare, perfectly temperate days.
If Amanda is not working, enjoying the outdoors, or planning her family’s next trip to a National Park, you can find her tucked in with her laptop following her other passion- writing. She has been published in Newsweek, Slate, Dorothy Parker’s Ashes, The Keepthings, and Anti-Heroin Chic. She hopes to add her memoir to this list of published work soon. She lives in Fairport, NY with her husband, two children, and their big, loveable German Shepherd, Thor.
